We love helping out the locals who are doing great things in our community. Here are a few recent stories where we stepped in to help.

Promoting school bus safety messages

Our Tranzit Coachlines team makes the time to remind road users and students travelling on the school bus, of their individual responsibilities, as well as promoting important school bus safety messages.

These include reminding all road users to slow down to 20km when driving past a stationary school bus in both directions and reminding students about best bus behaviour and etiquette.

“If you’re driving around when school buses are operating, it is important to know that there is a 20kph speed limit if you are passing a stationary school bus – in either direction – that is dropping off or picking up children. It’s also important for all road users to remember that if you see a school bus displaying school bus signs, please slow down,” says Colin Shotter, Tranzit Coachlines Taranaki Manager.

“It’s also important students adhere to best bus behaviour practises when travelling to ensure a safe and enjoyable journey for everyone, including the school bus driver.”

Over the years, we’ve partnered with Road Safety Councils, NZ Police, District Councils, Road Safety Councils and Ministry of Education to encourage all road users to slow down to 20km/ph when travelling past a stationary school bus in both directions. This month our team visited schools in Taranaki to share our free school bus safety resource and to share our school bus safety videos.

Connecting kind hearts

Kind Hearts movement is a New Zealand Charitable Trust focused on making the world a kinder place by empowering individuals and groups to strengthen communities through unconditional kindness.

As part of their Kind Hearts in schools’ initiative, Tranzit Coachlines Manawatu team provided transport – ensuring over 300 school children from 12 schools, could attend a special event at the Awapuni Racetrack.

The event was designed to inspire, entertain and make a positive difference in children’s lives. It featured guest presenters TV personality Suzy Cato, Nanogirl – aka Dr Michelle Dickinson, MNZM — as well as live musicians.

Kind Hearts event manager Raewyn Marshall thanked Tranzit for their support that enabled more children to attend the event over multiple days.

Colour me in Taupō!

Electric buses never looked so colourful … thanks to the creative flair of students from primary and intermediate schools in Taupō who took part in a colouring competition, Tranzit ran in partnership with Waikato Regional Council and Taupō District Council.

It was aimed at educating the next generation about the great work our team is doing in delivering public transport services in Taupō as well as educating them about the environmental and social benefits a zero emissions vehicle can bring.

Congratulations to all those entered and well done to our winners.

Supporting the next generation of players

In many parts of New Zealand, Tranzit Coachlines takes great pride in supporting our local sports clubs, specifically in supporting the next generation of players. This support may see us ensuring they get safely to and from games; have a chance to develop their performance skills on the field and social skills off the field as well as promoting participation in sport at all levels.

This year our Tranzit Coachlines Central team is proud to support the Taupo Girls’ 1st XV team, who are in a rebuild season with 90% of the team under-16. Our Tranzit Coachlines Wellington team is the proud sponsor of the Wellington Secondary School boys’ rugby competition which is currently in full swing involving teams throughout the Hutt Valley, Wellington City and Porirua. Meanwhile our three year sponsorship deal with the Wairarapa Bush Rugby Union has helped support their Player Pathway Programme.

Connecting the Community

Prior to introducing New Zealand’s first 100% electric bus fleet into Manawatū in partnership with Horizons Regional Council, our team was out and about in the community explaining the upcoming time table changes and fleet changes to passengers.

Our Tranzit Coachlines Manawatū team members teamed up with representatives from Horizons Regional Council to attend the Albert Street Market, Highbury Flea Market as well as several events at Massey University. Not only were they a great opportunity to show off our new electric buses, that can seat 25 passengers, have room for two wheel chairs and other walking frames, a bike rack and the ability to charge your phone whilst travelling, it was great chatting with students and staff at the Te Tira Ahu Pae Campus Carnival explaining how there will be more frequent services into town and that Massey internal students and staff are entitled to free travel within Palmerston North on any urban or Massey service. Reminding them of this great benefit brought dozens of smiling faces.

Tranzit’s collaboration with new Martinborough mural

The wine village of Martinborough’s new wall mural depicts a family of native birds with strong connections to the Wairarapa.

The mural, designed and painted by Manawatu artist Joe McMenamin, is part of the reignited Marty Mural Walk – a continuation of The Martinborough Mural Walk Project that came into being five years ago bringing public art to the village.

In recent years no new works had been added, until Charlotte Harding had a desire to reignite the project under its new name Marty Mural Walk.

The first new artwork to come about is thanks to the collaboration between Harding and Tranzit, as owners of a property in the village. With Tranzit preparing to celebrate its centenary in 2025, we wanted to revitalise the property and loved how the muralist Joe, wove a family connection into the artwork.

The mural features a family of native birds including the Karearea falcon and a white kiwi with a nod to Pukaha National Wildlife Centre, who has a long association with Tranzit Coachlines Wairarapa.
