Supporting our locals

We love helping out the locals who are doing great things in our community. Here are a few recent stories where we stepped in to help.

Career Bus Tour

Our Tranzit Group head office team laid out the welcome mat to host a group of Masterton residents, including Indonesians and members of our former refugee community, as part of a special visit organised by the Ministry of Social Development, Masterton District Council – Welcoming Communities, and New Zealand Red Cross.

The visit was part of a day tour that took the group to visit some of Masterton’s businesses so they could see what happens behind the scenes and meet the people that work there. It was a valuable chance for them to connect and learn more about the community they are now living in.

At Tranzit, the group was welcomed onsite and given an informal presentation that traced the company’s history; highlighting where we operate throughout New Zealand in the bus, coach, tourism and car rental sectors and to highlight potential employment opportunities.

The visitors were also taken through the Tranzit Group workshop where they could see a variety of fleet as well as have the opportunity to meet our mechanics, one of whom started with us straight from school as an apprentice. They were able to highlight the different career pathways there are also available within the workshop as well as highlight Tranzit’s national presence.

Tranzit also supported the day by providing in-kind travel for the recipients.

Transporting our Taranaki community

The Te Matatini biennial Festival is the largest kapa haka festival in the world, being a celebration of traditional Māori performing arts excellence.

Held this year in New Plymouth, our Tranzit Coachlines Taranaki team scaled up to provide transport services to the event held at Pukekura Park’s Bowl of Brooklands.

This involved doing more than seven charters and daily shuttle buses for performers as well as providing services to and from the event for members of the public in our fleet or urban buses. The feedback our driving team received from passengers was overwhelmingly positive with plenty of ‘thanks driver” comments and conversely they enjoyed listening to many teams warming up in the bus.

This year, Te Matatini brought together 55 haka groups from around Aotearoa and was described as the “Olympics” of Kapa Haka.

Back to School

Each January, our teams around New Zealand providing school bus services, take the time to reach out directly to the school communities they serve to actively promote school safety messages and highlight positive behaviour messages for students catching the school bus.

Part of this is providing schools with a helpful Back to School Toolkit they can share with their school whanau and offering a special school bus safety presentation (aimed at primary and intermediate age students) that our team can deliver to reinforce the safety messages. If this is something your school is interested in receiving please email zn.oc.tiznart@gnitekram

Supporting the TSB Festival of Light

Our vibrant, eye-catching TSB Festival of Lights bus will have heads turning in Taranaki this summer.

Tranzit has signed up for another year to support the New Plymouth District Council’s TSB Festival of Lights by offering a free bus service to help alleviate traffic congestion and ensure festival goers get safely to and from the event within the CBD. This comes after the success of last year’s free service, offered in partnership with the New Plymouth District Council and Centre City.

What’s even more exciting, is this 2024/24 festival bus will be easy to spot thanks to its colourful livery with depictions of light artworks in this year’s Festival, and music, flora and fauna found at Pukekura Park. The artwork was created by talented artist Harris Keenan, whose lighting work will also features at the Festival.

The TSB Festival of Lights is being held between 21 Dec 2024 – 26 Jan 2025. To find our more information about the free bus service click here.

Pack the Bus

November 2024

One of the more heart-warming initiatives that Tranzit Coachlines is involved in is Pack the Bus.

This annual campaign has been operating in many parts of New Zealand for several years, and this November we are proud to have a dedicated Tranzit bus and drive move throughout the communities of Whanganui, Palmerston North and Wairarapa visiting schools, public spaces and businesses to collect donated Xmas presents and non-perishable food items from members of the public. Once the bus is packed; these donated goods are then redistributed to families in need during the festive season via official agencies.

We are grateful to our partners Media Works, Property Brokers, Mitre 10 MEGA Masterton and councils in each of the regions we operate this amazing campaign, which sees the community come together in the spirit of generosity.

This year in Wairarapa alone, over 5000 donated gifts were distributed to 1030 children and 469 families ahead of the festive season!

Nature Clean Up provides valuable insights

Nature Clean Up provides valuable insights

Our Tranzit Coachlines Taranaki team helped remove 325 litres of rubbish from the environment during a Nature Clean Up near Lake Rotomanu and the Waiwhakaiho River in New Plymouth. Working under the guidance of Sustainable Taranaki’s knowledgeable team, our team of drivers and operations members collected nine buckets of rubbish. Following a waste audit, it was found that only 25% of this was able to be diverted from landfill into either compost or recycling. In addition to this waste, the team collected glass, plastic bottles, aluminium cans, mixed recyclables (cardboard and plastics), recyclable metals and golf balls. The most unusual find was half of an old metal drum. The Nature Clean Up not only helped this local environment but also raised awareness about the importance of taking responsibility for it.

Sustainable Taranaki loved partnering with our enthusiastic Tranzit team.

“It is great to meet people that want to contribute to reducing the amount of plastic and other pollutants flowing into our awa and moana,” says Suzy Randall, Sustainable Taranaki’s Zero Waste Manager.

It was also great to see our team being taught recycling tips and tricks that they can share with our other team members throughout Aotearoa, New Zealand.
